About Us
We are a very friendly quilting group who meet once a month on a Saturday. We run a varied programme of events - demonstrations, workshops, trips and talks, but mainly we meet regularly to sew and share our expertise.
Beginners always receive a friendly welcome. Although we do not hold beginner's classes you can be sure of plenty of helpful advice! We have our own library, sewing machines and other equipment for general use. We have made quilts as a group and other items for charity.
Our Annual Membership costs just £30 and visitors are welcome to come for a small fee (but only twice before making a commitment to join).
History
Gwent Quilters was founded 40 years ago and the original members met in each others' homes in Usk. When the group grew, it moved to Brynglas House in Newport where it continued to meet for the next 25 years. When Brynglas House closed, we moved to the Blaen-y-Pant Centre, and then from the start of 2015, the YMCA centre. From October 2017 we have met at Trinity Methodist Church, Glasllwch Lane, Newport NP20 3PU
Members have exhibited their work at Malvern and Festival of Quilts in Birmingham and some have been known to win prizes!
