As usual our 'Show and Tell' testified how creative and generous our members are. Gwyneth had produced several bags in various sizes, and Tessa had been making a bag too.
Gail, our chairman held an in-house workshop today, 'Make a Boro Bag'. The term Boro is derived from the Japanese boroboro, meaning something tattered or repaired, boro refers to the practice of reworking and repairing textile. For us this meant using up scraps of fabric and attaching them to a base fabric using sashiko thread to give a colourful and practical bag. We used the Susan Briscoe pattern which can be found on the V&A website https://www.vam.ac.uk/articles/make-your-own-japanese-boro-bag - have a go! In our 'Show and Tell' we saw some of the completed results from last month's Circles workshop with Gill Clark. We all had geat fun and were pleased with the results - we've decided to buy the circle cutter for club use as it was so useful. As usual our 'Show and Tell' testified how creative and generous our members are. Gwyneth had produced several bags in various sizes, and Tessa had been making a bag too. Tessa had also been busy making quilts for charity. The larger ones are fleece backed and will be going to Barton Camp charity, the smaller ones to a special care baby unit for covering incubators. Gail had a lovely quilt to show us while Fiona showed us a useful organiser she had put together and the results of a workshop she recently did with Anne Hellyer (http://www.paintingthetown.org.uk/).
