Every year we are set an AGM challenge, this year being 'anything but square', members are asked to vote and prizes awarded to the winners.
In October we have our AGM meeting. We heard a round-up of past events and details of things organised for next year; a special year for our group as we have our exhibition coming up in June. This year our committee said many thanks to Pat Cleary, stepping down from programme secretary and also to Gwynedd Mitchell who has been our 'member without portfolio' - mainly responsible for looking after the cupboard, where we store books and equipment for our members to use. Louise Rockett will be taking on the role of programme secretary and Steph Winterfeld will become our other member. The rest of the committee continue in the same posts, although the group were reminded that many committee members will have to step down in a couple of years, when they have completed their 3 year term. Every year we are set an AGM challenge, this year being 'anything but square', members are asked to vote and prizes awarded to the winners. We were pleased to find that the entries were all entirely different shapes and sizes but that does make it difficult to choose a winner sometimes! When the votes were in, Gail's blue wave was first, Louise's hearts second and Beryl's hexagons, third. Our other entries are below. Our afternoon speaker this year was Carol Bartlett from Sew Lovely in Barry. A very inspirational textile artist who specialises in reproducing vintage photographs into wonderful textiles with intricate machine embroidery. You can see examples of her work on her website (button below). She offers classes and workshops and we hope to have her back one day to do just that!
